Check out the main differences between Poem and Poetry

What is the difference between poem and poetry? Many are confused about the use of the terms 'poem' and 'poetry', as both seem to refer to the same meaning, however, their meanings can be different.

The term poem is linked to literature, that is, it is a textual type which has a certain structure, such as verses, stanzas, rhymes, meter, among other aspects, and belongs to the textual genre lyrical.

While poetry it is linked to any artistic expression, also characteristic of the lyrical genre, but it goes beyond just a textual structure. Therefore, we can consider that music, painting or a play can be artistic manifestations called poetry.

Important: this fact gives someone the freedom to say metaphorically that something is poetry, in the sense of being beautiful, see the example:
This song even sounds like poetry.

There are cases where we can use the term so much 'poem' as the term 'poetry', with no difference in meaning, that's because a poem can be one poetry, look at the example:

O poem by Clarice Lispector is amazing.
THE poetry by Clarice Lispector is amazing.

However, the reverse is not true, that is, not all poetry is a poem, since poetry can refer to others artistic expressions and artistic creations different from a poem, or else being synonymous with beauty, as we saw in the example above.

Therefore, pay attention to their differences to have no more doubts.
