The Brazilian People and the Proclamation of the Republic of Brazil

THE Proclamation of the Republic of Brazilit is one of the most important phases in our recent history. One of the most striking factors of this period, highlighted by historian José Murilo de Carvalho in his works, was the “passivity” of the Brazilian people in relation to the proclaimed changes, “who witnessed everything bestialized”.

If we go back to the History, in 1789, we will be facing a revolution that changed the world and that was not restricted to the space of its event, but influenced the whole European continent and American, are the echoes of the famous French Revolution.

Why talk about this revolution? The French Revolution represents the establishment of a Republic, in which the Ancien Régime, controlled by the monarchy, was deposed by the large strata of the population (farmers, merchants, doctors, lawyers, etc.) giving way to the French Republic, thus establishing radical changes in the political structure of the society French.

In Brazil, in 1889, the establishment of the Republic did not have the participation of the people, as happened in France. The Brazilian Republic replaces the Monarchic Regime and is installed by the military that would enter into crisis with the Monarchy.
