Lesson Plan - Recyclable and Non-Recyclable

THEME: Recyclable and non-recyclable

SUGGESTED TIME:

This lesson plan was designed to be applied in two classes of 45-50 min and that are on different days.

GOALS:

  • Realize the amount of garbage we produce over the course of a day;
  • To know the types of garbage;
  • To produce recyclable waste baskets to the classroom;

  • Dispose of material for recycling.

REQUIRED MATERIAL:

  • Frame;
  • Chalk/Brush;
  • 6 Cardboard boxes (note the size of your classroom, the boxes need to fit in a corner without taking up too much space for circulation);
  • White, blue, yellow, red, green, brown and gray gouache ink;
  • Agreement with a selective collection cooperative for them to pick up the material from the school or one that you can take with you.

In the first 20 minutes:

  1. Introduce the subject by asking your students if everything we throw in the trash is really trash.
  2. Give students an example of a snack somewhere. fast food or snack bar that children like in your city, highlight the amount of garbage generatedin just one meal.
  3. Write down the garbage list for this snack on the board, you must build this list together.
  4. talk about the amount of garbage generated in a full day, about the destination of this waste and how it impacts the environment.
  5. Ask if they know what recycling is, and if any students recycle trash in your home, listen to all the answers.
  6. Explain what is recycling and how to do it. Also talk about the types of waste that exist: recyclable, non-recyclable and organic.

In the remaining 25 minutes:

  1. Propose that you separate the garbage produced in the classroom for two days or until the next class.
  2. Show how is the color separation of bins, you can show in a print or projected photo with data show.
  3. Have students decorate the boxes according to colors, use white ink to write what each color represents.
  4. Distribute the boxes around the room.

Class 2

In the first 30 minutes:

  1. Ask students what it was like for them to think about the garbage they produced during those days.
  2. If there were difficulties, write them on the board.
  3. Ask if anyone has solutions for the difficulties presented, help them to find.
  4. Check with students the amount of waste produced during this period (bring gloves if necessary).
  5. Talk about the amount of garbage produced in the short time they are at school and how to reduce the waste they produce.
  6. Deliver the recyclable garbage produced to the cooperative, explaining that the cooperative members sell that garbage to large companies, which is often the livelihood of that family. In this way, you will be teaching students that recycling, in addition to contributing to the environment, can also generate solidarity.
  7. explain that organic waste can go to a composter and return to the environment as a fertilizer.
  8. Propose that they take selective collection to all the environments they frequent.

ASSESSMENT:

It should take place in the final 15 minutes of Class 2.

Ask students to write and give you the importance of recycling and what they learned about sorting waste.
