Maryland. state of maryland

Located in the northeastern region of the United States, the State of Maryland borders Pennsylvania on the north, with West Virginia to the west, with Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and Virginia to the south. His name (Marilândia, in Portuguese) was given in honor of the Queen of England Henrietta Maria of France.
Maryland was one of 13 colonies that rebelled against British rule; the state was the scene of numerous battles. Maryland is also known by the name “Old Line State”, just in honor of its “line troops” and its nationalist spirit, praised several times by George Washington.
Washington DC, the capital of the United States, was founded on land ceded by the states of Maryland and Virginia. Chesapeake Bay, the largest estuary in the United States, nearly divides the state in half. Its climate is temperate, with milder temperatures in winter and a little warmer in summer, compared to other states in the region. This is due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. The average temperature in Maryland is 27ºC in summer and 1ºC in winter.

The tertiary sector is responsible for 85% of the State's GDP, with emphasis on community and personal services. The financial, economic and cultural center of Maryland is Baltimore, one of the most important port hubs in the country. The state capital is the city of Annapolis.
