CBF means Brazilian Football Confederation, the highest governing body of football in Brazil. The entity is responsible for organizing the Brazil Cup (Men, Women and Under-20), the Championship Brazilian from series A, B, C and D, and administration of the Brazilian Soccer Team (Male and Feminine).
The Confederation was founded in 1914 under the name CBD (Brazilian Sports Confederation). At the time, the CBD was the only entity that coordinated all sports activities. The first president was Álvaro Zamith.
In 1979, the CBD changed its name to CBF, becoming the ultimate entity of national football. The other sports are coordinated by the COB (Brazilian Olympic Committee).
All Brazilian clubs with professional football teams are members of the CBF. The state federations, responsible for organizing state championships, are subordinate to the CBF.
CBF has its headquarters in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. The Granja Comary training center located in Teresópolis belongs to the Confederation.
