Voting represents the exercise of citizenship, every four years there are elections to choose mayors and councilors. Elections to choose the president, senators, governors and deputies also take place at the same time interval, every four years. However, in different years. Voting takes place simultaneously, that is, elections for government/presidency and mayor take place in different years, but in each case deputies, senators and councilors are also chosen.
A candidate to be elected must have a majority of the votes, in which case null and blank votes are not valid.
In order to carry out political campaigns, financial resources are needed, political parties bear such expenses and finance their respective candidates. Each party must open a bank account to record all financial transactions.
Companies that work in public opinion research must, obligatorily, present the collected data to the Electoral Court five days before public disclosure; in addition to providing information about who hired the services, the origin of the resources and many other necessary ones.
The presentation of electoral advertisements in the media, such as radio and TV, are released from the 5th of July of the election year.
As for the voting system, Brazil stands out on the world stage, voting and counting are done electronically.
Candidates are currently not allowed to attach stickers or any material related to the election campaign in poles, walls, bus stops and other public places, in addition to rallies with the presentation of artists.
On election days, people who, by chance, disclose the name of a candidate may be arrested and may remain in prison for a period ranging from six to one year or sentenced to community service and traffic ticket.
