Brasil Escola launches Health at School channel

Understanding that the formation of eating habits begins in childhood and adolescence, and that obesity is one of the main diseases of current and future generations, Brasil Escola brought together its teachers and journalists to create a new channel: Saúde na School. As of March 2012, all Portal users can check out tips and articles focused on preventing obesity in children and young people.

It is estimated that one in three children between the ages of 5 and 9 are overweight recommended by the Organization World Health Organization (WHO) and by the Ministry of Health, according to the Family Budget Survey (POF), carried out between 2008 and 2009. In the age group between 10 and 19 years, overweight affects one in five young people. It is a fact that obesity rates in Brazil have reached worrying levels, among the factors are the sedentary lifestyle, excess of industrialized food and the little time people reserve for their meals.

On the Saúde na Escola channel, it is possible to access several articles that report this problem and provide information on how to prevent obesity. In some cases the texts are interdisciplinary and can serve as a basis for school work, seminars and lectures. Share the channel with your friends and discuss your school's eating habits.

Brasil Escola is available to receive suggestions for the new channel. Contact can be made by e-mail customer [email protected]
