In 1954, in Ireland, Hugh Beaver was conducting a hunt when he came to the conclusion that he had not been able to shoot down any plover because the bird was too fast.
In the late afternoon, early evening, he met his friends and said he hadn't hunted any birds, because according to him it was the fastest that existed. He argued a little with his friends, but without reaching any consensus, at that time there was no book or encyclopedia that could offer concrete information.
Hugh was CEO of Arthur Guinness, Son And Company, the company that brews Guinness beer, and he had the idea of creating a book that would bring together all sorts of records in his mind.
Putting the idea into practice was not an easy job, but Hugh had the help of twins Norris and Ross Mcwhirter, journalists who pieced together a wealth of facts and figures.
After four months Hugh and the twins put together and published the first Guinness, first with 198 pages. After four months of publication, the book was considered the best seller of its non-fiction genre in England.
