When the subject is “verb”, many doubts can arise. But when the subject is “defective verbs”, the doubts arise in double!
You defective verbs they are so called because they have deficiencies in their conjugations. This means that they do not have all the verb forms and, therefore, cannot be conjugated in certain people, tenses or moods. The verb retriever is an example of a verb that does not have complete conjugation. For this reason, it is normal for speakers to find its irregularity strange.
To make a mistake in the conjugation of the verb reaper, just confuse it with a regular verb, that is, a verb that presents perfect conjugation in all verb forms. When that happens, confusion is set! The speakers end up inflecting the verb in the wrong way, creating non-existent forms, such as "reaviu" or "reaveu", disregarding that, in the present tense, the verb recover can only be conjugated in the first and second person of the plural form. As a consequence of the defect, the recover verb it does not present all forms of the present tense of the subjunctive, since the latter is formed from the first person singular form of the present indicative. Watch:

The word retriever comes from the Latin word rehabilitate, being formed by a prefix -re added to the word be. Because it is derived from the verb have, the verb reaper must be conjugated according to the conjugation of that (haver), which is also an example of a defective verb. Did you see? Follow the instructions and avoid slipping in the conjugation of defective verbs!
