How to stop sobbing?

A bout of hiccups is very unpleasant, especially when you're in the middle of work and there's nothing to stop this sudden spasm. Perhaps it is because of this that popular beliefs exist.

Follow some of the most used sympathies to interrupt this uncomfortable task of our body:

objects on forehead – you place a curled piece of thread, as shown in the photo above, in the center of the forehead of the person who is sobbing and waiting. Will she stop sobbing? It might even be, if faith speaks louder!

There is no scientific basis regarding the act of placing a grain of rice or other objects attached to the forehead as being effective procedures for eliminating hiccups.

Hold the breath – you hold your breath until you can stand it, and in this way, your sobs will end. Result: You usually have a huge shortness of breath and your hiccups remain persistent. Clearly, this action is just another failed attempt to solve the problem.

drink water – one of the most used sympathies. This can be done in infinite ways, let's see some:

Drink water by bending the neck down (initial image); say “Mary” three times, interspersing with a sip of water; cover your ears and drink a glass of water without stopping, among others.

Do not stop now... There's more after the advertising ;)

Now, the bad news: in most cases, there is no sympathy that solves the problem. Lifting your arms, getting a fright, drinking water upside down, etc., none of this works when it comes to sobbing.

So, it remains to be seen what the origin of hiccups is. The hiccup is nothing more than the body's response to sudden contractions of the diaphragm (muscle located above the stomach and responsible for the expansion of our lungs through the act of breathe).

The hiccup comes when the diaphragm, after expanding, contracts rapidly. This action forces air into the lungs, and at the same time, the glottis closes. The glottis is a bulge found at the top of the throat, whose function is to produce sounds. The characteristic sound of hiccups is the result of the sudden closure of the glottis and interruption of the air intake.

The good news is that unless you have a disorder (permanent hiccups), your hiccups will naturally stop after a while. So don't panic in the face of a crisis of hiccups, it's best to relax and wait.
