THE Amazon International is a term used to refer to the northern region of South America, where the Amazon Forest is located, which covers a total area of 7 million km2. This region is also known as the Amazon Jungle, Amazon Equatorial Forest or Rain Forest.
Most of the International Amazon is located in Brazilian territory, comprising 60% of the total. This area is called the Legal Amazon by the Brazilian government.
The International Amazon spans nine countries in South America: Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname.
Characteristics of the International Amazon
It comprises an area of 7 million km2 covering nine countries. The total area corresponds to half of the territory of South America.
The Amazon Rainforest is one of the largest in the world. Has hot and humid weather, with abundant rainfall and the rainy season lasts for six months.
The fauna and flora biodiversity contributes significantly to Brazilian and world biodiversity.

Legal Amazon
The Legal Amazon is an area of the Amazon Forest that affects nine Brazilian states: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima. In addition to these, it also covers part of Mato Grosso, Tocantins and Maranhão. The Legal Amazon has existed since 1953, when it was determined by the publication of Law No. 1.806/53.
The area was determined by the government due to economic, political and social issues that are shared by these zones. The objective was to delimit the region so that improvement projects were easier in terms of planning, logistics and execution.
