King Louis Charles [or Louis-Charles] XVII of France

French King (1793-1795) born in Versailles, also known as Duke of Normandy (1785-1789), Dauphin of Viennois (1789-1791) and Prince Royal of France (1791-1793). Son of Louis XVI and Maria Antoineta, after the execution of his parents (1793) he remained in the Temple prison in Paris. As the eldest son of King Louis XVI and dauphin (1789), the heir to the throne, he was proclaimed King of France (1793) by his uncle, Monsieur Luís-Estanislau-Xavier and Count of Provence, in the exile in the city of Hamm, near Düsseldorf, Westphalia, a territory of the Archbishop of Cologne, which was not very valid as France was at that time as a republic.

However, after the country returned to the monarchy, accepted Luis-Estanislau-Xavier as Louis XVIII of France, recognized his reign as Louis XVII in the numbering of kings. Isolated from the family as a precaution against possible abduction, in prison the little boy worked hard as the assistant of a shoemaker, Simão, (1793-1794). The following year it was reported that he had died in prison from tuberculosis. His heart was taken out by an official doctor as proof of his death to the royalists.

These circumstances gave rise to multiple hypotheses about a possible evasion. There are still doubts today that that organ was actually the heir's body, and it was rumored that the boy had been released from prison by his supporters and taken to an unknown location. Thus, for decades later, pretenders to the royal throne appeared, claiming to be their descendants. The heart changed hands many times until it was finally placed in the royal crypt of Basilique de Saint-Denis (1975) outside Paris, burial place for his parents and many other members of the royal families from France.
