Geographical Location of Brazil. Location of Brazil in the world

O Brazil is a country that integrates South America and has a territorial extension of 8,514,876 km². It is the fifth largest country on the planet, only smaller than the territories of Russia, Canada, China and the United States. The territorial abundance makes Brazil have four zones, since in the east-west direction it is quite extensive. For these aspects, it is considered a country with continental dimensions.

The large territorial extension gives the country a border with almost all South American nations. Only Chile and Ecuador do not border Brazil.

For the precise realization of the geographic location of Brazil and from other countries, regardless of the point on the planet, it is necessary to use geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude).

At latitudes they explain the points in degrees of a given place along the earth's surface, taking as a reference the Equator Line, in a north and south direction.

already the longitudes show the position in degrees of a particular point on Earth that has as its main reference the Greenwich Meridian in an east or west direction.

In the east-west direction, Brazil is 4,319.4 km away. The extremes are Serra Contamana, where the source of the Moa River (AC) is located to the west, with a longitude of 73°59'32”, and Ponta do Seixas (PB), to the east, with a longitude of 34°47' 30". The extremes in the north-south direction are 4,394.7 km apart and are represented by Mount Caburí (RR), to the north of the territory, with latitude 5°16’20", and Arroio Chuí (RS), to the south, with latitude 33°45’03".

The extremes of the Brazilian territory

The Brazilian territory is located, in its entirety, west of the Greenwich meridian, therefore its area is located in the western hemisphere. The equator runs through the extreme north of Brazil, making 7% of its territory belong to the northern hemisphere and 93% is located in the southern hemisphere. Cut to the south by the tropic of Capricorn, it presents 92% of the territory in the intertropical zone (between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn); the remaining 8% are in the southern temperate zone (between the tropic of Capricorn and the Antarctic polar circle).
