Sir Reginald Myles Ansett, the Uncle Reg

A pioneer in passenger air transport born in Bendigo, near Victoria, Australia, who started his venture in Melbourne (1936) when he founded Ansett Transport Industries Limited, a service company between Melbourne and Hamilton.
With its offices in Melbourne, it started (1931) with a passenger transport service in the Western District, Victoria State, and, licensed as a pilot (1929), he created the Hamilton-Melbourne line, until he founded his first air transport system (1936), the Ansett Australia Airlines (1936-2002), won a Brisbane-Adelaide air race (1937) and installed the company's operations center in Essendon Airport, Melbourne. After World War II his business really started to prosper.
Created Ansett Transport Industries (1946), invested in car rentals, hotels and television stations and became owner of the largest transport system in the southern hemisphere (1957-1979) after buying Australian National Airways (1957). He moved the seat of control of his companies to Tullamarine, Melbourne (1972), which he merged into The News Corporation Limited and TNT Limited (1979). Cavaleiro (1969), retired (1980) and died the following year.
