Receiving an award or giving an award has the same meaning as reward. According to the Aurélio dictionary, prize has in part the following meaning: “Reward. Distinction given as encouragement for work or merit”. It is in this sense that we think the award within School Physical Education, Physical Education focused on health and Sport: the award refers to a type of reward.
The awards linked to each of the areas previously presented have particular characteristics and are called extrinsic and intrinsic rewards. The intrinsic reward refers to an inner reward that the practitioner provides for himself, such as the feeling of well-being, the maintenance of his health and the pleasure arising from the practice. This type of reward is found in Physical Education classes at school and in the practice of physical activity aimed at health.

The second type of reward is an outward and therefore concrete and visible reward. These are sports awards, whose medals and trophies are the great icon of this category. But there are other types of extrinsic rewards that are less remembered but that gain equal importance: the recognition of being the best player or player of the championship, "fair play" award and even the financial reward, very common mainly in field football and in sneakers.
