Meaning of Zeus (What they are, Concept and Definition)

Zeus it was the God of gods, sovereign of Mount Olympus, god of sky and thunder, in Greek mythology. Its symbols are lightning, eagle, bull and oak. Greek artists in their sculptures sought to show their god in erect poses, with a lightning bolt in his raised right hand, or in other sculptures, seated in a majestic pose.

Zeus was also known for his adventures, which led to his line of descendants between gods and heroes, such as Athena, Apollo, Dionysus, Perseus, Helena, Minos among others.

Zeus was considered the god of natural phenomena, and was responsible for lightning, thunder, rain and storms. But later on, he also became the god of justice and law. His statue at Olympia was majestic, and was part of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The early Olympic games were held in his honor.

Zeus married several times. The first wife was Metis the goddess of prudence who gave him the daughter Athena who was born an adult from the head of Zeus. The second wife was Themis, the goddess of justice with whom he had the goddesses Moiras and the Hours.

When this marriage ended Zeus married his sister Hera, the goddess of marriage, but he also had several lovers, who were his passions, they bore several illegitimate children, not only gods, but also the hero Perseus, who (killed the jellyfish), and the muses Clio (inspired by the story) and Urania (from astronomy).
