The day June 18th was chosen as the National Chemist's Day, since on that date, in the year 1956, the then President Juscelino Kubitschek promulgated the "Mater Chemists Law" - Law No. 2800/56. This date was very important for Chemistry professionals in Brazil, as this law provided for the exercise of the profession of Chemist and also created the Chemistry Advice: CFQ/CRQs (Federal Chemistry Council and Regional Chemistry Councils).
As a result, chemists not only ceased to be a virtually unknown class in our country, but also began to act more actively on technological progress, improving product quality nationals.
The contingent of professionals in Chemistry includes the following categories: Technicians in Chemistry, Bachelors/Licentiates in Chemistry, Chemists Industrial or equivalent Technologists, Chemical Engineers and their specializations, among others, which form a range of about 50 denominations.
In addition to determining who the Chemistry professional really was, the enactment of Law No. 2800/56 made it possible for chemists themselves to supervise the professional practice.
The activities performed in the exercise of the profession of Chemist can be seen in detail in the Decree No. 85877/81 and in theNormative Resolutions of the Federal Chemistry Council, in particular, the resolution of No. 36/74, plus the "Rest Rules" contained in art. 341 of the CLT and in art 2 of Decree 85877/81.
O Chemist's day it serves to remember all the achievements that this class has achieved with the Lei Mater and, above all, to honor the hard work — and often anonymous — that these professionals perform. Thanks to them, there is constant technical-scientific and industrial development in our country, because these professionals adapt Chemistry to the solution of technological problems and promote chemical and university research centers in the Brazil.
This also makes evident the role of the Chemist in the well-being of society, as he provides that products such as medicines, food and hygiene products and cleaning, are manufactured with a better quality both for the health of the consumer and those who produce them and to minimize environmental impacts as much as possible. In this way, the prejudice that many have developed about Chemistry and that spreads the idea that this science only brings harm to the environment and to our lives can be undone.
So, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the Chemistry professionals for their important work! Congratulations to all Chemists in Brazil! Besides, how about taking advantage of this date to get to know some of the scientists who contributed greatly to the development of Chemistry?
