Pre-modernism. Authors and works of pre-modernism

The literary universe is linked to the way the artist confronts reality (whether historical, political, economic or social) to create his works. This way of seeing reality and transposing it to paper often materializes as a form of repudiation, of breaking with past molds, and that is how it happened with the artists who composed the pre-modernist period, that is, they decided to implement a literature with a nationalist nature, a literature that could portray the Brazilian reality, taking into account its most critical aspects. This new positioning was precisely to counteract the ideas materialized so far, demarcated by taste, adherence to everything that was imported, given that trends were based on a copy of everything that was present in fashion Parisian. Thus, this scenario of “the denunciation of the Brazilian reality” was composed by authors of great weight, such as Graça Aranha, Euclides da Cunha, Lima Barreto and Monteiro Lobato, the latter turned more fiercely to issues related to peasant poverty, seeking a fairer society, which we can clearly see in the work “Urupe”.

Through all the information that will be registered in this subsection, you can see that the pre-modernist literature was deeply rooted in issues policies, demarcated by the alliance made between the coffee growers of São Paulo and the milk producers of Minas Gerais, which resulted in the policy of coffee with milk; in economic matters, given that with the decline of sugar activity in the Northeast, this region becomes kept totally to the negligence of the politicians - which caused the migratory flow to the center-south of the parents; and also on social issues, as it was a time of many revolts, arising from urbanization, the growth of the working class and the marginalization of newly freed slaves.

Do not stop now... There's more after the advertising ;)

In this way, it is not unbelievable that the perceptions arising from this social environment were materialized through art, registered in the large cultural collection that we can enjoy, as the unique representatives of the target period of our studies. Thus, by interacting better with all the information attributed to everything that happened in pre-modernism, you will make important discoveries. For this reason, be sure to immerse yourself in this universe of literature, in which the word has its turn and voice, which here, only here, is it demarcated for you, the main target of all the attempts to which we we propose.
