The visual identity is an important item when organizing a big event like the soccer World Cup. Colors, symbols and objects are carefully chosen to provide identity for the host country of the event. In the case of the 2018 World Cup, which will be held at Russia, the symbols will be the emblem, the poster, the mascot and the ball.
Mascot
the mascot of Russian World Cup it is a siberian wolf which, as the name says, is a typical animal of Siberia, a region that occupies almost 80% of Russian territory. He was named “Zabivaka”, which means “one who scores a goal”.
Zabivaka was chosen in a popular internet poll that got over a million votes. The Siberian wolf won with 53% of the votes, against 27% for the tiger and 20% for the cat.
The 2018 World Cup mascot wears red shorts and a white and blue T-shirt, colors of Russia, and wears glasses that are common in snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding.
Emblem
The Russian Cup emblem shows a design of the champion's cup in red, gold, blue and black, colors of Russian culture. On top of the bowl are three blue starry balls that represent space, a reference to the
space race.Russia, then the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), was the first country to send a man into space (Yuri Gagarin). The emblem also pays homage to the Russian satellite Sputnik, the first to orbit planet Earth.
The company that designed the emblem also said that the red color symbolizes the propulsion of space rockets and that the stars symbolize the magic of football and the “stars” of the sport.

The 2018 World Cup ball was named Telstar 18, in honor of the 1970 World Cup ball, which was called Telstar. This name is a reference to the “television star” (star is star and television is television).
Telstar 18 is white with black details, like the ball that gave rise to the name. These colors were used in the 1970 Cup to highlight the ball on TV broadcasts, which were still colorless.
Poster
The poster features the image of Russian goalkeeper Lev Yashin making a save. Yashin is considered one of the best goalkeepers in football history, being the only one in the position to win a Golden Ball for best player in the world. Yashin participated in four World Cups (1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970) and died in 1990, aged 61.
The work, created by Russian graphic artist Igor Gurovich, is inspired by post-constructivism from the 1920s and 1930s. This Soviet style is one of the most important and revered elements of Russian culture.
