Countries with very high Human Development Index (HDI)

Aiming to establish the quality of life of different populations, the United Nations (UN), through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), created an indicator called the Human Development Index (HDI).

To obtain the HDI for a given place, three aspects are analyzed:

- Level of education: average years of schooling in the adult population and expected number of years of schooling.

- Income: Gross National Income (GNI) per capita, based on the purchasing power parity of the inhabitants.

- Health level: obtained through the population's life expectancy. This item is a reflection of the quality of health and environmental sanitation services.

These three aspects were added together and the final result was divided by three (simple calculation). However, as of 2010, a new method started to be used, where the final result of the HDI is obtained through the geometric mean of the three items analyzed, that is, the three items are multiplied and the cubic root of the result.

This indicator ranges from 0 to 1, the closer it gets to 1, the higher a nation's HDI. According to data released in 2010 by the UN, Human Development Indexes are considered to be extremely high to those with an average above 0.787. The ranking is made up of 169 countries, with the 25% best average (42 countries) having a very high HDI. Check out the list of these countries with high socioeconomic status:
