Six Day War. The factors that triggered the Six Day War

At the end of the 1960s, tensions between Israel, Syria and Egypt would mark the development of a new conflict in the Middle East. It all started with the circulation of rumors that Israeli forces were planning a new series of invasions with expansionist objectives. In the meantime, the Syrian government has started to support the Palestinian guerrilla groups and the Egyptian government, for its time, deployed a set of troops to block the Straits of Tyran - Israel's important access to the Ocean Indian Ocean.

In May 1967, tempers between the countries involved rose even more when Syria, Jordan and Egypt signed a military mutual defense agreement that soon put the Israeli government on alert. The tension served for Israeli troops to carry out the first attack, even without any kind of attack carried out by neighboring countries. War superiority and the use of heavy weapons were of central importance for the Israeli victory to take place in desert territories.

Israel's quick victory granted the domain of several important regions. Among the most important territories, we highlight the Gaza Strip, the Golan Heights, the Sinai Peninsula and the eastern portion of the city of Jerusalem. As a result, Jerusalem is no longer a capital divided between Jews and Arabs. Furthermore, in the portion of the Gaza Strip, Israelis began to set up agricultural settlements in territories that had a vast majority of Palestinian population.

Even with the great success of Israel's attacks, several experts considered this war of disastrous nature for peace to be achieved among the peoples of that region. Over time, this impression of the outcome of the war proved to be correct insofar as the hostilities between Jews and Palestinians continued to exist and other wars marked the East Average.
